Since the 2004 election, advertising has developed with the fast advancing technology. Commercials and online advertisments are more appealing and creative than ever. Even advertisements and movie previews at theaters are progressing with technology. Instead of the old “no talking on cell phones” reminder, movie theaters across the country now project “refrain from texting and the use of bluetooth wireless devices”.
Along the lines of advertising, Barack Obama is running the show. Branding the term “Change” (which the US has been using for years relating to the economy and government) to his advantage, Obama has imaged himself as a new, exciting, and young hope for the Unites States. Even his logo, the sun rising over red striped plains in the shape of an O, represents a fresh image of a new beginning for the Unites States.
Obama has utilized new forms of advertising to image himself as teen-friendly. Facebook, a staple in teen society and communication, has advertisements popping up constantly with the simple word “Change” and Obama’s face and logo. Clean, simple, and enthralling, Obama’s Facebook ad is just the beginning of his popularity.
I am not sure of my hopes for the election results in November, but I am sure that Obama is a genius in advertising. He branded his name and face with the word “Change”, the solution US citizens have wanted for years. Get excited for the next steps of advertising McCain and Obama will take in the next few months!

It’s really good to see, especially since the Republicans (under Rove) were winning the marketing game until… 2006ish.

Yes, but would we want a president with the best policy or the best advertising? It scares me sometimes when someone is so adept at convincing people of things through ads. If he can convince someone to vote for him because of a few placed ads, what else can he convince us to do? Many of the most infamous dictators of all time were propaganda masters.
